Durant used the Chevrolet Motor Car Company to get a controlling stake in General Motors that has a reverse merger occurring on May 2, 1918 and propelled himself back in the GM presidency. After Durant's second ousting in 1919, Alfred Sloan, together with his maxim "a car for each purse and purpose", would choose the Chevrolet brand for being the volume leader inside the General Motors family, selling mainstream vehicles to take on Henry Ford's Model T in 1919 and overtaking Ford because the best-selling car inside the United States by 1929.Chevrolet-branded vehicles can be purchased in most automotive markets worldwide, In Oceania, Chevrolet is represented by its Australian subsidiary, Holden, having returned for the region in 2018 following a 50-year absence using the launching with the Camaro and Silverado pick up truck. In 2005, Chevrolet was relaunched in Europe, primarily selling vehicles built by GM Daewoo of South Korea using the tagline "Daewoo has exploded enough to get Chevrolet", a move rooted in General Motors' try to build a global brand around Chevrolet. With the reintroduction of Chevrolet to Europe, GM intended Chevrolet to become mainstream value brand, while GM's traditional European standard-bearers, Opel of Germany, and Vauxhall of United Kingdom will be moved upmarket. However, GM reversed this transfer late 2013, announcing how the brand can be withdrawn from Europe, with all the exception with the Camaro and Corvette in 2016. Chevrolet vehicles will continue to be marketed within the CIS states, including Russia. After General Motors fully acquired GM Daewoo next year to create GM Korea, the past usage on the Daewoo automotive brand was discontinued to use native South Korea and succeeded by Chevrolet. In North America, Chevrolet produces and sells numerous vehicles, from subcompact automobiles to medium-duty commercial trucks. Due on the prominence and name recognition of Chevrolet as one of General Motors' global marques, Chevrolet, Chevy or Chev is employed at times as being a synonym for General Motors or its products, one of these being the GM LS1 engine, commonly known with the name or maybe a variant thereof of the progenitor, the Chevrolet small-block engine.
